SHRINK
 THE DIVIDE
ONE HUG
AT AT TIME

50 STATE CRAZY LOVE MISSION

It's crazy all my life I was never a hugger and now I give thousands. It's crazy I want to travel to every single state and just give them. It's even crazier I quit my job to do it. But what's really crazy though is the huge divide in our nation. So I'm driving around the country to shrink the divide one hug at a time. I'm doing it for our country, but most importantly my two daughters who will inherit this earth. I will stand on a bridge arms open in every state. Sometimes with friends and family but often alone because I truly believe "Hugs make the best bridges." Not all I meet want a hug. Some just want to talk, but everyone wants to be understood.

THIS WHOLE UNITY THING IS ON US

Bringing our country back together is not up to any politician, or other public figures. That job is on every one of us as Americans. No, it will not be easy bridging us back together, but we got to do it. Nothing bridges like a simple hug either. It reminds us what unites us all, our humanity.  Something about it also energizes and heals you and the one you’re hugging. That’s not just Disney stuff. Science even says so. Still, even with the thousands of hugs I have given, I still struggle with initiating them myself. So if hugging isn’t your thing that’s cool. I get it.

ONE TALK

AT A TIME,

Some folks prefer to talk to connect, like me. I call it a hug through conversation. Find someone you disagree with politically and have a chat. Here’s the tricky part. Don’t mention politics. Talk anything but. Family. Sports. Music. Art. Food. The weather. Anything but politics. Also, talk to understand their reality not convince them of yours, and listen more than you speak. I think you will find you have more in common with that person than you thought.

AND ONE BOOK AT A TIME.

For others nothing beats wrapping their mind around a great book. I myself pick up a few when I’m not burning dinner for  the family, ripping up cardboard for recycling, or other daddly duties. So take your love of the written word and use it to understand a view not your own. Read a book from the other side of your politics. Better yet read a book about shrinking the divide itself. I have two favorite. “Love Your Enemies” by Arthur C Brooks and “Don’t Label Me” by Irshad Manji. Reading is a great way to leave our own comfortable bubble without ever getting off the couch.

Add your hugs, kisses, and stories below. I will add them to our blog here. Most importantly "Hug it out America"
